If the seeds are soft perhaps the husks are lodging in the grinding mechanism. I'm guessing you've tried washing it. Beyond that, I'm sorry to say I have no answer. Mine is working fine (3+ years). Perhaps one of those small electric coffee grinders would be a better tool for small applications.
