What is GAC 100 by GOLDEN used for?

GAC 100 is a professional acrylic medium that is primarily used to customize acrylic paints. It enhances the fluidity and application characteristics, allowing artists to create a smooth texture. This medium is particularly beneficial for creating glazes or building up layers in mixed media projects. Artists looking to achieve a transparent finish will find GAC 100 indispensable, as it maintains the paint’s vibrancy while modifying its consistency.

Can GAC 100 be mixed with other brands of acrylic paint?

Yes, GAC 100 can be mixed with other brands of acrylic paint. Its formulation is designed to enhance performance without interfering with the chemical properties of other acrylics. This versatility allows artists to combine different brands and achieve desired results. Just ensure that the paints being mixed are also acrylic-based to maintain compatibility.

How does GAC 100 affect drying time?

Using GAC 100 can slightly prolong the drying time of acrylic paints, allowing for extended workability. This is particularly advantageous for artists who need more time for blending and layering. The medium’s composition helps maintain a workable consistency while preserving the paint’s overall integrity. However, if quick drying is preferred, artists can adjust their mixture accordingly.

Is GAC 100 suitable for outdoor use?

Although GAC 100 is formulated for durability in various applications, it’s recommended for indoor use primarily. For outdoor projects, consider applying a protectant or finishing layer over the top. The transparency of GAC 100 allows underlying colors to remain vibrant, making it suitable for interior artworks, but for outdoor conditions, additional protective steps are necessary.

Can I use GAC 100 with a brush or airbrush?

GAC 100 is versatile enough to be used with both brushes and airbrushes. When using it with a brush, it offers exceptional control and application. In contrast, when airbrushing, you may need to adjust its consistency by mixing it with water for optimal flow. Artists often prefer airbrushing for larger areas or finer details, while brushes allow for intricate textures and layers.

What surfaces can GAC 100 be applied to?

GAC 100 is primarily designed for use on traditional painting surfaces like canvas, wood, and paper. Its transparent formula allows it to blend seamlessly into the artwork, which makes it suitable for old paintings as a retouching medium. When applying to a non-porous surface, make sure to prepare it appropriately to ensure excellent adhesion. Whether for mixed media or fine art, GAC 100 adapts well to various surfaces.

How do I clean brushes after using GAC 100?

Cleaning brushes after using GAC 100 is straightforward. It’s best to rinse the brushes in water immediately after use to prevent the medium from drying in the bristles. For a thorough clean, use mild soap and warm water. This ensures that brushes maintain their shape and effectiveness, particularly when transitioning between different painting mediums during your projects.

Can GAC 100 be used in gel mediums?

Yes, GAC 100 can be incorporated into gel mediums to enhance the transparency and flexibility of the final application. By mixing it with gel mediums, artists can create a custom texture that suits their projects. This combination is particularly useful for mixed media works or when striving for a specific visual effect that combines layering and depth in the artwork.

Is GAC 100 non-toxic?

GAC 100 is formulated to be non-toxic and safe for use in art applications. This makes it suitable for artists of all ages looking for a medium that won’t pose health risks during use. However, it's always advisable to use it in well-ventilated areas to ensure a comfortable working environment. This safety feature appeals to those engaged in workshops or educational settings.
